Blue Light Treatment
Blu-U light therapy is a recent advance in the treatment of acne. The Blu-U light emits a safe, cool visible blue light which is a therapeutic alternative to antibiotics or topical agents. Based upon the ability to reduce certain causative bacteria in the skin, this simple treatment may be beneficial in controlling and improving your acne. Your physician will determine the amount of time spent under the light which usually varies from 8-20 minutes.
For moderate to severe acne, the Blu-U light can be combined with a Levulan kerastick, which is a photosensitizing agent that makes the skin more sensitive to light. The combination of topically applied Levulan and exposure to a Blu-U light enhances therapeutic results by reducing the activity of the sebaceous glands and causative bacteria within the skin which are contributory factors to acne. A preliminary physician consultation is required to determine whether a Blu-U and/or Levulan treatment is appropriate. With Levulan, the amount of time exposed to the light varies from 8 to 16 minutes.
Blue Light treatments are only available at our Main office in Marietta on Campbell Hill Street.
